The situation in Venezuela is said to have stabilized, and recent developments are provided from the lens of the federal official.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently offered updates on Venezuela, outlining U.S. military actions and speaking on the results. The U.S. military seized Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro in January of 2026, conducting the mission to bring the dictator to justice in the United States. Previously holding the position of vice president, Delcy Rodríguez is currently serving as interim leader of Venezuela, under U.S. supervision. Secretary Rubio stated that a stabilization stage has been “largely achieved.”
“We didn’t want the country having a mass migration. We didn’t want civil war. We didn’t want upheaval in the streets. The stabilization phase of our plan has largely been achieved,” the secretary stated. “We are going to get to the point where our military will have achieved all of its objectives in this mission, and they’re doing so with extraordinary efficiency — something that I think will go down in history as one of the best run tactical military operations in modern times.”
He continued, “We are seeing economic recovery in Venezuela in a way that is good for the United States. What has been achieved there in just three months is nothing short of extraordinary.”
“Ultimately, there will have to be a transition phase,” Secretary Rubio said, “There will have to be free and fair elections in Venezuela. And that point has to come.”
“We have to be patient, but we also can’t be complacent,” he added.
Secretary Rubio also commented on Cuba, asserting that the country’s economy would not be fixed until their system of government was reformed. After President Maduro was removed from power, the U.S. cut off Venezuelan oil exports to Cuba, applying pressure to other countries to follow suit.
