Praying for Our Leaders in Government

Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration

Labor Secretary Marty Walsh spoke at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. He promoted the strengthening of multi-lateral partnerships, labor rights, and labor-management partnerships as well as job quality and essential protections across worldwide supply chains.

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen told Congress that her department will resort to “extraordinary measures” to avoid a default on the nation’s debt. The debt limit is expected to be reached on January 19.  She stated it is “critical that Congress act in a timely manner to increase or suspend the debt limit. Failure to meet the government’s obligations would cause irreparable harm to the U.S. economy, the livelihoods of all Americans, and global financial stability.”

Pray for members of the federal government who are attending the World Economic Forum in Switzerland.

Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress

Senator Dan Sullivan of Alaska is urging his colleagues to hold a hearing on TikTok regarding the privacy and national security issues associated with it, as well as the influence it has over children. Meanwhile, federal and state legislators continue to implement bans on the Chinese government-linked app.

Representative Jeff Van Drew of New Jersey has called for an investigation into whether or not offshore windmills are killing whales off the coasts of New Jersey and New York. Seven dead whales have washed ashore in less than two months. He urges a cessation of “all offshore wind activity” until an investigation is conducted. Congressman Van Drew said, “Since offshore wind projects were being proposed by Governor Murphy to be built off the coast of New Jersey, I have been adamantly opposed to any activity moving forward until research disclosed the impacts these projects would have on our environment and the impacts on the fishing industry.”

Pray for members of Congress as they investigate matters that have a direct impact on the nation’s security.

Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges

The Supreme Court has left a ruling from the Second Circuit Court of Appeals in place that allows New York to enforce its new gun control law while a legal challenge plays out.

A three-judge panel of the Eighth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals heard oral arguments last week in an appeal of a lower court ruling that allows private parties to bring allegations of racial gerrymandering under a section of the Voting Rights Act.

Pray for the judicial panels that make up the Courts of Appeal, whose decisions remain final when the Supreme Court declines further challenges.
