A large test animal breeding farm is freeing the remainder of its dogs.
Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Brook Rollins made a joint announcement this week regarding the continued transition away from animal testing. After a Wisconsin judge found probable cause for animal cruelty by Ridglan Farms, the second-largest breeding farm in the U.S., it released 1,500 beagles, with nearly 500 more set to be freed.
“USDA investigated conditions at Ridglan Farms, conducted inspections, and held the facility accountable under the law,” Secretary Rollins stated. “Ridglan Farms will cease operating as a dog-breeding facility and transfer its remaining 475 beagles to a large cage-free, no-kill rescue—giving them a real path to adoption and loving homes.”
“We are also launching a new NIH office, ORIVA [Office of Research, Innovation, Validation, and Application], to speed the transition away from animal testing and toward modern, human-based science,” Secretary Kennedy stated. “We are committed to humane animal care and to replacing animal testing with effective alternatives wherever possible, and we’re turning that commitment into lasting change.”
The HHS secretary also thanked Lara Trump, the president’s daughter-in-law, for “championing the issue.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary Rollins as she oversees USDA efforts to ensure animal welfare in the agricultural sector.
- For Secretary Kennedy as he heads HHS and the transition away from animal research and testing.
