CIA Director Leads U.S. Delegation to Cuba

Director Ratcliffe met with the Cuban interior minister and the grandson of the former leader of Cuba.

Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director John Ratcliffe led a U.S. delegation to Havana, Cuba, late last week. The director met with the grandson of former Cuban leader Raúl Castro, Interior Minister Lazaro Alvarez Casas, and other officials. The United States has blocked Cuba’s access to oil, which the regime formerly received from Venezuela and Mexico.

A CIA official stated, “Director Ratcliffe and Cuban officials discussed intelligence cooperation, economic stability, and security issues, all against the backdrop that Cuba can no longer be a safe haven for adversaries in the Western Hemisphere.”

The State Department announced that the U.S. offered Cuba $100 million in humanitarian aid to “be distributed in coordination with the Catholic Church and other reliable independent humanitarian organizations.”

A State Department spokesperson said, “The decision rests with the Cuban regime to accept our offer of assistance or deny critical life-saving aid and ultimately be accountable to the Cuban people for standing in the way of critical assistance.”

“They need help,” President Trump said on Friday as he returned to the United States from China. “You talk about a declining country, they are really a nation or a country in decline. So we’re going to see.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For President Trump and members of his administration as they seek to assist the people of Cuba.
  • For Director Ratcliffe as he oversees the Central Intelligence Agency and assesses Cuban leaders’ willingness to cooperate with regional security goals.
