The Treasury Department would need congressional approval to redirect the funds.
The White House has proposed the use of revenue generated from tariffs to continue funding America’s Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC). White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt highlighted how the food program for 7 million at-risk women and children only had enough funding to keep running for one week after the government shutdown.
Press Secretary Leavitt stated on social media, “Thankfully, President Trump and the White House have identified a creative solution to transfer resources from Section 232 tariff revenue to this critical program.”
President Trump suggested that Congress introduce and authorize the use of the tariff revenue to specifically cover the food assistance program during the shutdown.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For President Trump and members of his administration as they seek to ensure food assistance for women, infants, and children.
- For members of Congress to consider authorizing the Treasury Department to redirect the funding to WIC.
