Supreme Court Denies Appeal of Alleged September 11 Planners

The justices allow the appellate court’s ruling to stand, which found that the defense secretary had the authority to revoke the plea deals in 2024.

The U.S. Supreme Court announced that the justices would not review the decision made by then-Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin in 2024 to revoke plea deals for men accused of planning the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

The high court allowed the appellate court’s decision to stand, which upheld the defense secretary’s authority to cancel the plea deals. Under those agreements, the death penalty was removed for the suspected planners, who have been held at Guantanamo Bay.

A military commission judge had approved the deals that military prosecutors had reached with the conspirators. One of the planners, who is allegedly the ringleader of the plan to hijack planes and crash them into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on September 11, is set to stand trial before a military commission in 2028.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for the justices as they consider requests for appeal of circuit court decisions.
  • For Secretary Hegseth and Defense Department officials as they assess the military’s effort to prosecute the accused 9/11 conspirators.
