President Signs Order Creating an NIH Women’s Health Division

First Lady Melania Trump advocated for the action to improve women’s healthcare.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order to create a women’s health division in the National Institutes of Health and establish a White House Women’s Health Task Force. First Lady Melania Trump advocated for the program to strengthen research, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and care for girls and women.

The first lady said at the Rose Garden signing ceremony on Monday, “Previous generations fought for women’s rights. Our generation will fight to discover the cures that will ensure a woman can live her life in health and to the fullest.”

President Trump said the order is intended to “promote new research and really go after the understudied diseases affecting women.” He named White House chief of staff Susie Wiles, who recently completed treatment for breast cancer, and Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. as the leaders of the White House task force.

Mrs. Trump outlined Five Pillars of Women’s Health Innovation. These include funding research for cures unique to women; the use of super intelligence to enhance understanding of female biology and expedite medical discoveries; accelerating the transition of promising therapeutics from labs to female patients; making medical breakthroughs accessible and affordable to women; and increasing conversation, education, and compassion surrounding female health.
