Senate Confirms 107 Nominees During Shutdown

The minority party had blocked traditional voice votes for lower-level federal officials until the rules change.

The Senate voted along party lines to confirm 107 nominees for federal executive positions this week. This is the second group of appointments by President Trump that has passed after Senate Majority Leader John Thune updated the Senate confirmation rules to avert the obstruction of votes by the minority party.

Senator Thune commended this second bloc vote for filling in President Trump’s administration. Senator John Barrasso of Wyoming, the majority whip, said, “President Trump now has much of his team in place and ready to get to work for the American people.”

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has continued his criticisms of more than 600 nominees yet to be processed.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Senate Majority Leader Thune to be discerning as he oversees the upper chamber’s business and negotiates for government funding.
  • For Senate Minority Leader Schumer to discuss reopening the federal government in good faith.
  • For members of the Senate as they consider and vote on the president’s nominees.
