White House Announces Web-Based Form for FOIA Requests

The administration also published OMB contacts for traditional requesting methods.

The White House Office of Management and Budget published a webpage with contact information for Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) inquiries. The information also included the federal website through which requests may be digitally submitted.

President George W. Bush issued an executive order in 2005 that sought to improve agency disclosure of information. He stated, “The effective functioning of our constitutional democracy depends upon the participation in public life of a citizenry that is well informed. … Under the FOIA, the public can obtain records from any Federal agency, subject to the exemptions enacted by the Congress to protect information that must be held in confidence for the Government to function effectively or for other purposes.”

The federal government is allowed to withhold information under 9 exemptions, including “national security, deliberative process and attorney client, and confidential business information.“

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Director Russ Vought as he heads the Office of Management and Budget.
  • For President Donald Trump and officials in his administration as they seek to streamline FOIA requests.
