The pandemic diary entries Dr. Fauci wrote were kept on government servers.
The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee is set to vote Thursday on a contempt resolution filed by Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky against Dr. Anthony Fauci, formerly the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. Dr. Fauci pled the Fifth Amendment right not to incriminate himself more than one hundred times during a committee hearing last week, despite the presidential pardon he was given by President Biden at the end of his term.
Senator Paul stated, “Dr. Fauci appeared under subpoena and invoked the Fifth Amendment to refuse answering questions. During the hearing, I ruled that the Fifth Amendment did not apply because of the pardon, and that Fauci had waived any remaining privilege by giving opening testimony. I ordered him to answer and warned him about contempt, yet he still refused. That is obstruction of a congressional investigation. The Committee will act accordingly.”
Senator Paul released diary entries recorded on government computers by Dr. Fauci at the height of the pandemic ahead of the Senate hearing. The senator stated, “What [Fauci] wrote privately and what he told the country are two different stories.”
In response to criticism that Dr. Fauci’s diary was somehow leaked, stolen, or hacked, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy said, “If you do something on a government server, it belongs to the government. He was keeping a diary for the book that he intended to write about his life. And at the end of his term, just before he was leaving, he emailed the entire diary to himself. … That’s how we found it, through those emails.”
