Senator Tuberville Ends Block of Most Military Confirmations

400 nominees were confirmed hours after the announcement.

Senator Tommy Tuberville ended his 10-month blockade on the mass confirmation of most military promotions on Tuesday after increasing pressure from members of his party.

“I’m releasing everybody — I’ve still got a hold on, I think, 11 four-star generals. Everybody else is completely released from me,” Senator Tuberville said. “Other than that, it’s over.”

Just hours after his announcement, the Senate voted unanimously to confirm over 400 military nominees into their positions of promotion. Pentagon spokesperson Brigadier General Pat Ryder stated that military leaders were “encouraged” by the removal of the blockade.

“We’ll continue to stay engaged with Senator Tuberville in the Senate directly to urge that all the holds on all our general flag officer nominations be lifted, to include those nominated for four-star,” General Ryder said.

Senator Tuberville prevented en mass military confirmations over the past 10 months due to the violation of the Hyde Amendment by the Defense Department health policy which allowed taxpayer funding of abortions for members of the military and their families.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Senator Tuberville as he continues to address the violation of the amendment that prohibits public funds for abortion.
  • For members of the Senate as they seek to confirm the remaining flag officers for promotion.
  • For Defense Secretary Austin and Pentagon officials to uphold and follow U.S. law.
