Issue 509 – Federal Branches

Praying for Our Leaders in Government

Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration

The Treasury Department is preparing to take action, including using sanctions, to make it more difficult for hackers using digital currency to profit from ransomware attacks. The department will also issue new guidance on the risks associated with facilitating such ransomware payments, including fines and other penalties.

The Department of Homeland Security inspector general told Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas in a memo that DHS put employees and border town residents at greater risk of COVID-19 infection by failing to adequately screen migrants.

Pray for officials in the Executive Branch as they make decisions and deal with the results of policies that have been implemented.

Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress

Representative Jim Banks of Indiana, Chairman of a House study committee, unveiled a plan to challenge the president’s program to quickly resettle tens of thousands of Afghan refugees into the U.S. In a memo, he said the president’s plan was dangerous and extended an open border approach to immigration policies as well.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California said the House will vote September 27 on the bipartisan infrastructure bill even though progressives have warned they will not support it if the larger social spending package is not yet completed. They are seeking to have the $3.5 trillion package tied to the infrastructure bill so that both pass or neither does.

Pray for members of Congress as they prepare for upcoming votes on the massive spending and infrastructure bills.

Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas cautioned against “destroying our institutions because they don’t give us what we want when we want it,” stating that the high court must remain independent from political polarization.

A federal judge has ordered President Biden’s administration to stop swiftly expelling migrant families with children who cross the U.S.-Mexico border using a policy drafted under the previous administration called the Title 42 healthcare policy.

Pray for the independence of the courts at every level and that judges would be careful to follow the law rather than political currents.
