U.S. Sanctions Cuba Over Harsh Response to Protests

Sanctions would target senior officials.

On Thursday, President Biden’s administration began imposing a range of new sanctions against Cuba. The action is intended to hold the government and its agents responsible for engaging in violence, repression, and human rights violations against peaceful protesters.

According to White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, the sanctions are being set by both the Treasury and State Department and will target senior Interior Ministry and police officials, those who were involved in the severe repression efforts. Hundreds of people who were protesting against the Cuban government last week have reportedly disappeared.

Cuba’s totalitarian government has spanned 62 years and 13 U.S. presidents.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the State Department as they respond to humanitarian crises around the world.
  • For the Treasury Department as they bring financial accountability to nations committing human rights violations.
  • For the president and his advisors to have wisdom in their response to international incidents.
  • For the Cuban people who are enduring Communist oppression.
