Interior Secretary Haaland Sworn into Office

Inauguration marks first native American to lead the department.

Deb Haaland was sworn in to become the 54th Secretary of the Interior Department this past week. Secretary Haaland is the first indigenous Secretary of the Interior – the department which contains the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Secretary Haaland formerly served as a member of the House of Representatives.

Following her confirmation, Secretary Haaland issued the following statement: “I am proud and humbled to lead the dedicated team at Interior as we seek to leave a livable planet for future generations. Together, we will work to advance President Biden’s vision to honor our nation-to-nation relationship with Tribes, address the climate and nature crises, advance environmental justice, and build a clean energy future that creates good-paying jobs and powers our nation.“

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For God to lead Secretary Haaland as she begins her tenure at the Interior Department.
  • For the Interior Department to transition effectively under the leadership of Secretary Haaland.
  • That the president’s administration would seek God’s guidance as they seek to preserve the nation’s environment.
