PHMSA Proposes Update to Liquified Natural Gas Standards

The first update to the standards in decades, the new rule is expected to save $100 million annually.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy recently announced that the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) published a proposed rule to update liquefied natural gas standards. This is the first proposed update to the standards in decades. The updates are expected to fast-track new infrastructure projects, lower energy costs, expand export capacity, and generate $100 million in annual energy savings.

Secretary Duffy stated, “America has the natural resources, innovative spirit, and private sector might to be the world’s number one energy powerhouse. The only thing standing in our way is outdated red tape. By overhauling these basic rules to embrace modern technologies, we can safely unleash America’s energy dominance, lower costs, and generate millions in economic opportunity for the men and women powering our energy sector.”
