Talking to Whom?

The Lord God, even my God, is with you. He will not leave you or forsake you. – 1 Chronicles 28:20

“You talkin’ to me?” It’s a classic line in goodfella movies and slang for toughies today, but have you actually considered that underlying question as an important spiritual tool? Clarifying who is speaking and who is being spoken to is critical in applying Scripture.

As King David’s life and reign were drawing to an end, he called Israel’s leaders together finally announcing who would inherit his throne. He was also publicly tapping the one to be charged with accomplishing his life’s dream—building God’s house of worship. Solomon was chosen by both God and David. Everyone in attendance knew he would need something more than courage to bear the weight of a Kingly mantel and the spiritual mission. On that momentous occasion, David pointed out to his son that God’s presence is given to those willing to face the challenge of doing His will. In context, you can see today’s verse is not a feel-good sentiment, it is a promise anchored in God’s character—revealing that He will be faithful to assist those working in His service.

Are you facing a challenge today? Do you believe God is asking you to do a hard thing? Hold fast and take heart. If God has asked you to do it then, like Solomon, you can have confidence He will be with you as it is accomplished.

Intercede for those faithfully working in America’s government and churches. Ask that they will approach their assignments with faith and boldness remembering if He is talking to you, He will see it through!

Today’s Verse: 1 Chronicles 28:20

Then David said to Solomon his son, “Be strong and courageous and do it. Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed, for the Lord God, even my God, is with you. He will not leave you or forsake you, until all the work for the service of the house of the Lord is finished.

“Listen to me, O house of Jacob,
    all the remnant of the house of Israel,
who have been borne by me from before your birth,
    carried from the womb;
even to your old age I am he,
    and to gray hairs I will carry you.
I have made, and I will bear;
    I will carry and will save.
“To whom will you liken me and make me equal,
    and compare me, that we may be alike?
Those who lavish gold from the purse,
    and weigh out silver in the scales,
hire a goldsmith, and he makes it into a god;
    then they fall down and worship!
They lift it to their shoulders, they carry it,
    they set it in its place, and it stands there;
    it cannot move from its place.
If one cries to it, it does not answer
    or save him from his trouble.
“Remember this and stand firm,
    recall it to mind, you transgressors,
    remember the former things of old;
for I am God, and there is no other;
    I am God, and there is none like me,

    and from ancient times things not yet done,
saying, ‘My counsel shall stand,
    and I will accomplish all my purpose,’
