Senate Passes $740 Billion Defense Bill

Legislation includes removing Confederate names from military bases.

On Thursday, the Senate passed its version of the National Defense Authorization Act, a $740 billion bill that sets policy for the Pentagon. President Trump has indicated he would veto the legislation over a provision that removes Confederate names from military bases.

The 86-14 vote sets the path for debate with the White House later this year if base name provisions remains in the legislation.

With both the House and Senate passing their own versions of the bill, congressional negotiations will require several weeks before a final compromise is reached.

At present, there are ten military bases across the country named after Confederate Civil War generals.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the congressional negotiating teams as they work on a compromise defense spending bill.
  • For President Trump to have wisdom as he considers whether or not to sign the spending bill.
