Three Senators Met with Zelensky in Kyiv

Bipartisan senators visit Ukraine to assess how the United States aid is being used.

Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, Senator Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, and Senator Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island met on Friday with Ukrainian President Zelensky in Kyiv. Their primary purpose was to receive a briefing on the security situation and, according to a release from the Zelensky office, to receive thanks for helping arrange his visit to the U.S. last month in which he addressed Congress.  They were also given an assessment of the efforts of the Ukrainian security forces in defending against Russia.

In a tweet after the meeting, Senator Lindsey Graham said the three bipartisan senators all had the same goal: driving Russia out of Ukrainian territory.  He also said the Ukrainian military needs tanks to achieve its goal. Senators Blumenthal and Whitehouse tweeted their “steadfast” and “unwavering” support for Ukraine.

Since Russia invaded Ukraine last February, the U.S. has delivered more than $26 billion in aid to the besieged country. The latest package, announced last week, includes 90 Stryker armored personnel carriers and 50 Bradley Infantry Fighting Vessels. Despite the aid delivered, Ukraine is still seeking more.

“The war started by Russia does not allow delays, and I can thank you hundreds of times, and it will be absolutely just in fear given all that we have already done, but hundreds of thank you are not hundreds of tanks,” Ukrainian President  Zelensky said.

The U.S. has been looking to its NATO allies to deliver more heavy armament to Ukraine.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the president and Congress to seek guidance from God as they determine how to best provide aid to Ukraine.
  • For God to bring about a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
