The Joint Staff director is the second J5 general to be released this year.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth terminated the Joint Staff’s Directorate for Strategy, Plans and Policy (J5) Director, Army Lt. General Brett Sylvia, this past week. The former commander of the 101st Airborne Division is under investigation for allegedly leaking sensitive information to the media regarding the wars in Iran and Ukraine.
A Pentagon official stated that the general failed three polygraph examinations involving the alleged disclosure of classified information. The Justice Department has received a criminal referral in the investigation. General Sylvia is the second J5 officer to be removed this year.
Pentagon chief spokesman Sean Parnell stated that the department’s warning to those suspected of leaking sensitive information to the press “was not an empty promise.”
