Changes to White House Chief of Staff

The current Chief of Saff Ron Klain is planning to step down following the State of the Union address.

According to news reports, White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain is expected to leave his post following the State of the Union address in February. While the complete timeline has not yet been finalized, Chief of Staff Klain is expected to remain at the White House for a time in order to aid with the transition to a new chief of staff.

The list of potential names for the new chief of staff are former COVID-19 czar Jeff Zients, White House counselor Steve Richetti, National Security Adviser to President Obama Tom Donilon, and Cathy Russell, former executive director of UNICEF. New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu and Domestic Policy Council chair Susan Rice have also been suggested for the post.
