Deputy Under Secretary of Agriculture for Federal Nutrition Program

Stacy Dean earned an undergraduate degree and a Master of Public Policy from the University of Michigan.

She worked as a budget analyst in the Office of Management and Budget, later joining the Center for Budget and Policy Priorities.

She began her service in President Biden’s administration as Deputy Under Secretary for Food, Nutrition, and Consumer Services at the Department of Agriculture.  In May 2022, President Biden nominated her to be Under Secretary in the same office. That nomination awaits confirmation by the Senate.

In the News…

Eight months after the baby formula shortage began due to the closure of a major manufacturing facility, officials in President Biden’s administration are still addressing supply chain issues. While the supply of baby formula has recovered in general, the amount stocked in various stores is uneven.

The officials in charge of the response blame hoarding, supply chain bottlenecks and manufacturers making fewer varieties.

“I know that there’s obviously still a problem,” said Federal Nutrition Program Deputy Under Secretary Stacy Dean. The USDA program she oversees provides formula to low-income mothers and infants, which constitutes over half of the formula consumed in the U.S.
