President Reinstates Transgender Protections

Basing decision on Supreme Court ruling regarding Title VII.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced on Monday that it was ending policy of the previous administration which excluded transgender individuals from the federal definition of “discrimination on the basis of sex.” HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra highlighted the fact that last year, the Supreme Court determined that gay and transgender people are protected under Title VII of the civil rights act.

Secretary Becerra explained the importance of the protections saying, “Fear of discrimination can lead individuals to forgo care, which can have serious negative health consequences. Everyone — including LGBTQ people — should be able to access health care, free from discrimination or interference, period.” HHS will resume investigations of sexual discrimination of transgender individuals moving forward.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For God’s purpose to be accomplished as the HHS department implements these protections.
  • For Secretary Becerra to seek God’s will regarding health policy in the nation.
  • For the Supreme Court as they issue rulings that impact the entire nation.
