Senate Confirms New Director of National Intelligence

The acting director had continued with declassifications and staff downsizing.

The U.S. Senate confirmed former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Walter “Jay” Clayton as the Director of National Intelligence this week. Previous DNI Tulsi Gabbard resigned last month due to her husband’s cancer diagnosis.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune said ahead of the confirmation vote, “Amid a heightened threat environment, having a proven leader as the director of national intelligence is especially important, and Jay Clayton fits the mold.” Members of the Senate had refused to consider reauthorizing FISA until a new DNI was confirmed.

In the interim, Acting DNI Bill Pulte continued staff reductions that had begun under Gabbard and also declassified additional documents regarding the interference of China in the 2020 U.S. presidential election.

The declassified documents showed the plans of the Chinese to “exploit U.S. societal fissures and vulnerabilities” to influence voters and others via social media, influencers, and other media contributors. One of the documents stated that  China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea have the capability to access and potentially manipulate data in U.S. election-related computer systems.

Of the fifth round of staff downsizing, the acting DNI stated, “The Intelligence Community must protect the American people, NOT the political whims of the bloated and corrupt elite class.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Director Clayton to receive God’s wisdom in his new role heading the U.S. Intelligence Community.
  • For discernment for members of the Senate as they consider the SAVE America Act.
  • For President Trump and administration officials as they seek to ensure federal elections are decided by eligible U.S. citizen voters.
