Issue 760 – Federal Branches

Praying for Our Leaders in Government

Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration

President Trump lifted the pause on traffic stops by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents after Secretary Markwayne Mullin had suspended the tactic due to recent shootings. Foreign nationals in Maine and Texas were shot and killed this month after driving at federal immigration officers who ordered them to stop. President Trump called traffic stops “one of I.C.E.’s most important and effective Crime Fighting tools.”

Pray for the president to be led by the Lord in his immigration enforcement policies. Pray for protection for federal agents and for foreign nationals to comply with the law.

Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress

This week, House Speaker Mike Johnson expressed concerns over the increasing embrace of communism in the U.S. He stated, “Communism and this philosophy has led to the murder of tens of millions of innocent people in the 20th century alone. … It is a trail to certain death.” Addressing the midterm election this November, Speaker Johnson continued, “The election will be over whether we’re going to maintain our freedom in a constitutional republic, the greatest experiment in self-governance in the history of the world.” He added that Congress is currently fighting over whether to maintain this status as a constitutional republic or head down communism’s “dark road of death.”

Pray for Speaker Johnson and Majority Leader Thune to be discerning as they preside over their respective congressional chambers.

PRAY FOR CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEES

House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee members, Representatives Mariannette Miller-Meeks of Iowa and Diana DeGette of Colorado, have introduced legislation to create a national program to eliminate hepatitis C. The bill would expand testing and treatment of the deadly-but-curable liver disease to those who need it most, such as those who are incarcerated, uninsured, low-income, or who receive care through the Indian Health Service. Representative Hank Johnson of Georgia, who is now free of hepatitis C after treatment, said the bill seeks “to raise awareness about hepatitis C – a silent killer – so that others at risk can get tested and treated.”

Pray for members of House and Senate committees as they address health screenings for disease prevention.

Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges

U.S. District Judge John E. Steele ruled last week that Immigration and Customs Enforcement had to release a Cuban national, who was convicted and had served approximately twenty years in prison for hijacking a commercial plane. The federal agency had the man in custody as he was being processed for deportation. The judge ordered the illegal alien’s release under supervision, meaning that federal officers will keep track of the man in the community as the effort to deport him proceeds.

Pray for federal justices and judges to be prudent as they hear cases related to immigration laws and deportation.
