Gabbard said she will help with the transition to a new DNI and leave office June 30.
Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard announced that she would be resigning her position as of June 30, due to her husband’s health diagnosis.
In a letter to President Trump, which she released on social media, DNI Gabbard stated, “I am deeply grateful for the trust you placed in me and for the oppoertunity to lead the Office of the Driector of National Intelligence for the last year and a half.“
“Unfortunately, I must submit my resignation, effective June 30, 2026,“ she continued. “My husband, Abraham, has recently been diagnosed with an extremely rare form of bone cancer. He faces major challenges in the coming weeks and months. At this time, I must step away from public service to be by his side and fully support him through this battle.“
Acknowledging that “there is still important work to be done,“ the director expressed her commitment to “ensuring a smooth and thorough transition.“
Ms. Gabbard concluded, “Thank you for your understanding during this deeply personal and difficult time for our family. I will remain forever grateful to you and to the American people for the profounde honor of serving our nation as DNI.“
