Transportation Department Opens $3B Bridge Grant Program

Federal funding initiative supports bridge repairs, rehabilitation, and planning projects nationwide.

The U.S. Department of Transportation announced that $3 billion would be made available through the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA)’s Bridge Investment Program (BIP) to support states and local governments in repairing and replacing aging bridges. The program includes grants for bridge planning, feasibility studies, rehabilitation, preservation, and replacement projects costing up to $100 million. Officials said the funding is intended to improve transportation reliability and safety while helping communities address deteriorating infrastructure.

“We are putting the focus back where it belongs: safety, reliability, and getting Americans home to their families,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy.

“We are giving states and local governments more flexibility to decide how to best accelerate bridge building projects in their communities,” said FHWA Administrator Sean McMaster.

Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) stated that applications for planning grants are due June 15, 2026, while bridge project applications are due June 29, 2026.
