Praying for Our Leaders in Government

Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration

President Donald Trump has named former Attorney General Pamela Bondi as a member of the Presidential Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. The panel advises the president on artificial intelligence policy. Ms. Bondi is recovering from thyroid cancer treatments after leaving the Justice Department.

Pray for discernment for the president and members of the advisory panel as they determine strategies for and guidance on artificial intelligence. Pray for healing for Ms. Bondi.

Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress

The House will be considering a move to make Daylight Saving Time permanent. The Sunshine Protection Act was added to the Motor Vehicle Modernization Act last week and approved by the House Energy and Commerce Committee, chaired by Representative Brett Guthrie of Kentucky. While a similar measure was tried and reversed in the mid-1970s, a bipartisan effort has gained momentum, with President Trump advocating to end the twice-a-year clock change in favor of sunlight later in the day.

Pray for members of the House and Senate as they debate stopping the time change in favor of daylight savings.

PRAY FOR CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEES

House Administration Committee Chairman Bryan Steil of Wisconsin and Vice Chair Laurel Lee of Florida wrote to the Maryland State Board of Elections after the state sent out 500,000 incorrect mail-in ballots and opted to then mail corrected ones. The House legislators are seeking information on safeguards the state board of elections has in place to verify the mail-in ballot accuracy for the gubernatorial primary election next month. The chair and vice chair wrote, “While the SBOE is taking precautions to void the initial batch of ballots, distributing over half a million additional replacement ballots risks creating immense logistical strain and potentially undermines public confidence in the nation’s elections.”

Pray for members of the House and Senate committees as they seek to ensure states administer election protocols to ensure the integrity of results.

Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges

After ruling against House apportionment based on race in a Louisiana case, the Supreme Court returned Alabama’s 2023 congressional map to a lower court, which had blocked it on the grounds of racial discrimination. The court proceeded to rule with the same reasoning, stating, “Our earlier constitutional analysis and conclusion, on the same record that is before us now, are undisturbed by Callais.”

Pray for federal justices and judges as they hear challenges to states’ congressional mid-decade redistricting efforts.
