The court filing highlighted the recent shooting at a White House checkpoint.
The Department of Justice filed a request with the court to allow the construction of President Trump’s ballroom in the aftermath of the shooting at a White House gate over the weekend.
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche wrote, “This second attack on the President this month underscores the critical need for top level, state of the art security at the White House.”
The acting AG stated that President Trump cannot “safely conduct the business of the United States” with the East Wing construction project halted by the legal process.
Blanche explained that “the Ballroom, a knitted, unified, cohesive part of the East Wing Project, which is vital for national security and is being constructed to ensure that the President can perform his constitutional duties in a safe and heavily secured facility.”
President Trump also stated, “This event is one month removed from the White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting, and goes to show how important it is, for all future Presidents, to get, what will be, the most safe and secure space of its kind ever built in Washington, D.C.”
A federal judge halted construction until a hearing on June 5th.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Acting Attorney General Blanche as he advocates for the East Wing construction for national security.
- For the Lord to protect President Trump and members of his Cabinet from political violence and assassination attempts.
- For members of the Secret Service as they guard the president and executive branch officials.
