U.S. Senate Confirms Senator Markwayne Mullin as Head of Homeland Security

The upper chamber has still not funded the department.

The Senate confirmed Senator Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma on Monday evening to the position of Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The vote was largely along party lines, with only a handful of crossover votes.

The Senate has repeatedly help votes to fund Homeland Security and its many agencies, which include the U.S. Coast Guard, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and Transportation Safety Administration (TSA). The congressional minority has continued to insist on greater immigration enforcement reforms, even as the White House offered concessions to get appropriations passed.

President Trump had Border Czar Tom Homan deploy U.S. Immigration and Customs agents to airports around the country on Monday to assist with lessening the hours-long wait times travelers were experiencing at security checkpoints due to lack of TSA staff.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Mullin and Border Czar Homan as they oversee efforts to enforce federal immigration laws.
  • For ICE officers and TSA workers as they seek to ensure the security of air travel.
  • For President Trump and members of his administration as they address foreign and domestic issues.
