The energy secretary recently traveled there to discuss potential energy deals.
President Donald Trump announced his intention to visit Venezuela, concurrently commending interim leader Delcy Rodriguez. President Trump’s administration has explored the possibility of expanding oil deals with Venezuela, and a visit to Venezuela by President Trump would align with those goals.
In January, the U.S. captured Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro so he could face federal charges, and while the U.S. does not currently recognize Delcy Rodriguez’s interim government as legitimate, President Trump has said, “We are dealing with them, and really right now they have done a great job.”
Energy Secretary Chris Wright recently visited Venezuela to further the energy goals of the president’s administration.
Secretary Wright said during his visit that President Trump “is passionately committed to absolutely transforming the relationship between the United States and Venezuela. This is part of a broader agenda to make the Americas great again, to bring our countries closer together, and to bring commerce, peace, prosperity, jobs, and opportunity to the people of Venezuela in partnership with the United States. These are not just words or ambitions. We have very specific plans and very specific actions already.”
