President Signs Bill to End Partial Government Shut Down

Homeland Security funding is temporarily extended for further negotiation.

President Donald Trump signed the amended funding package on Tuesday that narrowly passed in the House of Representatives. The successful passage ended a four-day partial government shutdown and covers the rest of fiscal year 2026, outside of the Department of Homeland Security. The appropriations for immigration enforcement were temporarily extended to February 13.

When asked about President Trump’s stance on the funding for immigration enforcement, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said, “We are not going to concede in enforcing our nation’s immigration laws and delivering on the mandate the president was given by nearly 80 million Americans to deport illegal alien criminals from our country.”

“Hopefully there will be a sense of urgency around if there’s a path forward, what it might look like and what individual component pieces might be included,” Senate Majority Thune said of the tight negotiating timeframe. “But we’ve got people in very different places, as you know, on that.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For House Speaker Johnson and Senate Majority Leader Thune as they work to finalize funding for immigration enforcement.
  • For President Trump and Secretary Noem as they advocate for upholding immigration laws.
