The investigation is the result of department concerns in the aftermath of the shooting on Brown’s campus.
The Department of Education announced its intention to review Brown University’s security following the campus shooting earlier this month. The department says that Brown University may have violated the Clery Act, which stipulates certain campus safety and security regulations for colleges receiving federal aid.
“Students deserve to feel safe at school, and every university across this nation must protect their students and be equipped with adequate resources to aid law enforcement,“ Education Secretary Linda McMahon stated. “The Trump Administration will fight to ensure that recipients of federal funding are vigorously protecting students’ safety and following security procedures as required under federal law.”
The Department’s Office of Federal Student Aid (FSA) is heading the investigation and has requested certain information from the university as well as incident reports and call logs from 2020 to 2025. The university is supposed to submit the information by January 30th, 2026.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Education Secretary McMahon as she seeks to protect students from potential violence on campus.
- For Acting Chief Operating Officer Richard Lucas as he oversees the FSA review of Brown University.
- For officials in the Department of Education as they hold U.S. universities to the security standards required by federal law.
