Interior Transfers Public Land to Navy for Border Security Expansion

Land along California’s southern border is being released as security concerns rise.

The Department of the Interior announced the transfer of public land to the U.S. Navy to expand border security along the United States’ border with Mexico. Approximately 760 acres of land from the western Otay Mountain Wilderness Area to just west of the California-Arizona state line will be transferred.

The Interior Department called the corridor “one of the highest traffic regions for unlawful crossings along the southern border, creating significant national security challenges and contributing to environmental degradation.”

The department noted that the land was originally reserved by former President Theodore Roosevelt in 1907 for “border protection services.”

“President Trump has made it clear that securing our border and restoring American sovereignty are top national priorities. This action delivers on that commitment,“ Interior Secretary Doug Burgum said. “By working with the Navy to close long-standing security gaps, we are strengthening national defense, protecting our public lands from unlawful use, and advancing the President’s agenda to put the safety and security of the American people first.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  •  For Interior Secretary Burgum as he heads efforts to prioritize border security.
  • For Secretary Phelan and U.S. Navy officials as they utilize the land along the Mexican border for national security.
