Military parts and technical support have been offered to the island nation.
The Pentagon announced that the U.S. has approved the sale of $300 million in aircraft parts to Taiwan. This potential sale, the first of President Trump’s second term, includes “non-standard components, spare and repair parts, consumables and accessories, and repair and return support for F-16, C-130, and Indigenous Defense Fighter (IDF) aircraft.”
The Pentagon stated, “The proposed sale will improve the recipient’s capability to meet current and future threats by maintaining the operational readiness of the recipient’s fleet of F-16, C-130.” The sale also offers additional services, such as technical and logistical support from the U.S. government and contractors.
China has continued to claim Taiwan as part of its territory, staging military missions near the island nation. Taiwan maintains that its sovereignty is only decided by its citizens.
