The government will be funded through December 11.
The House of Representatives passed the continuing resolution on Tuesday which was approved in the Senate before they took August recess. The temporary funding measure will carry the federal government through December 11, avoiding a potential government shutdown before the midterm election on November 3. The government’s new fiscal year begins October 1.
The Senate had added provisions to the previously House-approved legislation that curbed the control of federal grants by President Trump’s administration and delayed a hemp product ban. The bill had been passed “on suspension” by the Senate, meaning that, rather than going through procedural channels to receive a simple majority, the legislation could be passed by a bipartisan two-thirds majority.
President Trump is expected to sign the legislation.
