The department allocated grant funding to the nonprofit StrongHearts.
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) awarded a 5-year $15 million grant for the National Indigenous Domestic Violence Hotline, the first domestic violence hotline for Native American communities, to be operated by the nonprofit organization StrongHearts Native Helpline.
“This investment ensures that Native survivors — many of whom live in rural or under-resourced areas — have access to 24/7 lifesaving support,” Administration for Children and Families Acting Assistant Secretary Andrew Gradison said.
Reportedly, four out of five indigenous women face domestic or sexual violence in their lifetimes. The hotline will connect callers with local and area resources, such as crisis intervention and safety planning, emergency shelters, specialized referrals, and legal support.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Acting Assistant Secretary Gradison as he oversees the Administration for Children and Families.
- For Secretary Kennedy and HHS officials as they support resources that seek to prevent domestic violence in the Native American community.
- For the women in Native American communities to avail themselves of the needed support.
