New Cedar City site expands access to final resting places for Veterans in rural communities.
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) dedicated the Southern Utah National Cemetery in Cedar City this month, which will provide burial services for veterans and their families in the region. The cemetery will begin interments and is expected to accommodate about 215 burials annually, with capacity for more than 13,000 gravesites. It is the 157th VA cemetery nationwide, ensuring that nearly 94 percent of veterans now live within 75 miles of a VA-operated or grant-funded burial option.
The cemetery project began with the purchase of just over 8 acres in 2018, with construction launched in 2023 and completed in 19 months. The grounds include gravesites, crypts, columbarium niches, a memorial wall, and facilities for committal services.
“This dedication expands VA’s initiative to provide Veterans living in rural locations with final resting places closer to their homes,” said VA Secretary Doug Collins. “Generations of families will come to visit and remember their loved ones here — a place of spiritual comfort and healing. We will not forget the sacrifices and commitment of those interred in this sacred ground.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary Collins to be led by the Lord as he manages the Department of Veterans Affairs.
- For VA staff and personnel as they seek to care for the nation’s veterans.
