The attorney general said, The charges alleged in this indictment reveal the behavior of a public servant who put her own financial interests before the people she was elected to serve.“
The Justice Department announced an eight-count indictment charging Virginia State Senator Lillie Louise Lucas and six of her close family members with crimes related to their illegal marijuana distribution enterprise. The charges against the state senator include racketeering, money laundering, honest services fraud through bribery, maintaining drug-involved premises, possession of firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking, and wire fraud. She is accused of approving and directing activities for the criminal enterprise, including the arrangement of the acquisition and distribution of at least 100 kilograms of marijuana.
“Louise Lucas has served in a position of public trust in the Commonwealth of Virginia for over three decades,” said Attorney General Todd Blanche. “The charges alleged in this indictment reveal the behavior of a public servant who put her own financial interests before the people she was elected to serve. Our federal prosecutors will continue to be guided by the facts and evidence that led a grand jury to indict Ms. Lucas and her alleged co-conspirators.”
