Issue 751 – Federal Branches

Praying for Our Leaders in Government

Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration

The Department of Justice has filed a complaint against the state of New Mexico and the city of Albuquerque and requested a preliminary injunction against the implementation of the state’s “Immigrant Safety Act” and the city’s “Safer Community Places Ordinance.” The two regulations seek to eliminate the voluntary partnership between local governments and federal immigration enforcement. Assistant Attorney General Brett Shumate of the Justice Department’s Civil Division said, “Our filings seek to halt the state’s unconstitutional actions by preserving cooperation between federal, state, and local law enforcement and allowing federal immigration officials to enforce the law.”

Pray for Acting Attorney General Blanche, Assistant Attorney General Shumate, and other DOJ officials as they seek to uphold federal laws.

Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress

Representative Brad Sherman of California proposed legislation to tax oil companies on profits they derive from selling oil at over $75 per barrel, after President Trump suggested suspending the gas tax. Congressman Sherman’s bill would last the duration of the Iran conflict, or until oil returns to $75 per barrel or less, and impose a 100 percent tax on those profits.

Pray for representatives and senators as they seek to address the cost of living and higher gas prices.

PRAY FOR CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEES

Senator Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming, a member of the Environment and Public Works Committee, has sponsored legislation to codify President Trump’s executive orders regarding the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the permitting and licensing of nuclear energy plants. Senator Lummis said that, while natural gas meets the immediate demand for constant baseload power, nuclear energy, which made up approximately 18 percent of electricity generated in 2025, will be able to meet the increasing demand for power in the long-term.

Pray for members of congressional committees as they evaluate the nation’s need for electricity generation and the process of developing and expanding nuclear power.

Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges

A panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia determined that the Department of Homeland Security could not enforce the seven-day notice it required of members of Congress for visits to federal immigration detention facilities. Judge Neomi Rao wrote, “The [plaintiffs] have no standing to maintain this lawsuit, so the government is very likely to succeed on the merits of its appeal. But at this stage, the government has not sufficiently substantiated its claim of irreparable injury.”

Pray for federal judges as they hear challenges to federal regulations and policies surrounding immigration enforcement.
