USDA Launches Proving Ground Network for AgTech

NPG-Ag described as a “coordinated national research network” for farmers and ranchers.

The Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Research, Education, and Economics Under Secretary Dr. Scott Hutchins has announced the launch of the USDA National Proving Grounds Network for AgTech (NPG-Ag). The nationwide initiative was created to both test and validate tools utilized by farmers and ranchers to inform federal technological investments. The NPG-Ag is intended to facilitate producers’ confidence in new technologies and tools, allowing for balanced innovation and progress.

“By establishing a coordinated national research network to objectively validate new and emerging technologies, especially digital and AI-driven technologies, we are helping ensure row crop, specialty crop, and livestock producers all have access to reliable performance data for their investment decisions with a goal to accelerate adoption of AgTech innovations,“ Under Secretary Hutchins said. “We fully expect that NPG-Ag will expand and facilitate the development and application of emerging technologies across the public and private sector to uniquely benefit U.S. agriculture.”
