The funding supports repairs and safety upgrades for aging local distribution systems.
The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) announced $98 million in funding for projects directed at repairing and modernizing natural gas distribution systems. The grants are part of a broader program that provides nearly $1 billion over five years to address aging or leak-prone pipelines, particularly those operated by local or community-owned utilities.
“Modernizing gas distribution pipelines will save lives and protect America’s energy future,” said PHMSA Administrator Paul Roberti. “We look forward to working with local communities to minimize leaks, prevent accidents, and help make families’ energy bills a little more affordable.”
Funds may be used for infrastructure replacement, rehabilitation, and equipment such as leak detection systems. Applications for this final round of funding are due by May 22, 2026.
