House and Senate Pass More Funding Bills for 2026

Congress has now passed three out of twelve appropriations bills to fund the U.S. government.

The Senate passed a three-bill spending package to fund the Departments of Commerce, Justice, Energy, and Interior before the Martin Luther King, Jr., recess. House of Representatives also passed a two-bill spending package, combining funding for the State Department, as well as certain national security programs, the Treasury Department, and the IRS. The Senate will take up that package next week.

The House package also initially included funding plans for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), but some legislators wanted tougher rules for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers as a part of the bill. A different bill to fund Homeland Security is expected to be included in a fourth spending package that is expected to come to the floor next week.

Congress has now passed three out of twelve necessary appropriations bills needed to fund the government. The remaining nine need to be approved by January 30, or legislators will need a stopgap measure to temporarily fund the remainder of the government and prevent a shutdown.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For members of Congress as they continue to work toward passing legislation to fund the government.
  • For senators and representatives to seek God’s guidance as they appropriate federal spending.
