VERSE OF THE WEEK
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. – Psalm 119:105
Illuminated
The oldest vehicle headlamps were lanterns fueled by oil that barely lit the roadway more than ten feet. Electric ones were not introduced until 1918. It was said they could illuminate a road sign up to 500 feet away, but the problem was that their glowing filaments had a very short life. Over the years, headlight technology advanced until today’s vehicles are equipped with new light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs that provide longer life and greater distances of illumination. Still, none of them can light a curve in the roadway ahead, much less cover the entire distance to your destination. God’s Word functions similarly to headlights. Your steps are lit by reading Scripture, and your path is illuminated by your understanding. Only the Lord shines the light on what is around the next curve in your life, which is why you must give Him your complete trust. “Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you. Ponder the path of your feet, then all your ways will be sure” (Proverbs 4:25-26).
