Administration Urges Israel to Protect Civilians

The administration urges Israel to protect civilians after Palestinians die in airstrike.

President Biden’s administration continues to prioritize the safety of civilians as Israel continues its operations in Gaza. Israeli officials said “something unfortunately went tragically wrong” with a Sunday strike that recently caused 45 Palestinian fatalities.

“Israel has a right to go after Hamas, and we understand this strike killed two senior Hamas terrorists who are responsible for attacks against Israeli civilians,” a National Security Council spokesperson said. “But as we’ve been clear, Israel must take every precaution possible to protect civilians.”

National Security spokesman John Kirby said that the administration’s policy toward Israel has not changed. He said, “We’ve also said we don’t want to see a major ground operation in Rafah that would really make it hard for the Israelis to go after Hamas without causing extensive damage and potentially a large number of deaths. We have not seen that yet.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For President Biden and national security officials as they assess the ongoing aid to Israel.
  • For the peace of Jerusalem and wisdom for Israeli leaders and authorities as they investigate what went wrong in the strike.
