October 19th – Thursday

The Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. – Joshua 1:8

On this day in 1987, “Black Monday” occurred as investor panic caused the U.S. stock market to fall more than 20 percent in a single day. Today’s verse is significant in that the Word of God offers stability in this often unstable world. The dynamics of sin and evil will have their impact until Jesus Christ returns. Though you may be tempted to panic over what you witness in society, you are called to be salt and light, reflecting His character and purposes as you are “careful to do” what is written in the Scriptures, as today’s verse states. Do you ever feel unequal to the task of following Christ? Does the prospect of doing “according to all that is written” seem daunting? The Lord is willing and able to assist you in walking with Him and fulfilling the call He has placed upon your life. As you intercede on behalf of those serving in public office today, ask God to lead you into new levels of victory.

As the Lord leads, pray with us…

  • For Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Gary Gensler to seek God’s guidance as the agency regulates the market.
  • For Chairman Jerome Powell to be led by the Lord in heading the Federal Reserve.
