President Calls for More Funding for Ukraine

The continuing resolution from Congress did not include additional aid.

President Joe Biden gave a briefing after Congress passed a stopgap funding bill to avoid a government shutdown. Though the stopgap bill grants funding for the federal government until November 17, giving Congress 48 days to pass a budget for fiscal year 2024, the stopgap bill did not grant any additional funding for Ukrainian defense aid.

President Biden stated that Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy promised to pass a separate bill in the coming days to approve funding for Ukraine since there was none in the stopgap bill.

“We cannot under any circumstances allow America’s support for Ukraine to be interrupted,” President Biden said. “I fully expect the speaker to keep his commitment to secure the passage and support needed to help Ukraine as they defend themselves against aggression and brutality.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the president and his administration as they continue to promote aid to Ukraine.
  • For wisdom for Speaker McCarthy as he brings appropriations bills to the House floor.
  • For members of Congress as they negotiate the fiscal year 2024 budget legislation.
