In the News…

At a meeting in Beijing, U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo and Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao agreed to establish a working group that would hold meetings twice a year to discuss export controls on microchips and other key products related to the semiconductor industry. They agreed as well that the two lead officials would meet at least once a year in an effort to keep tensions from unexpected escalation.

They also discussed the restrictions China has placed on rare earth mineral exports.

The Commerce Department stated, “Secretary Raimondo reinforced the Administration’s commitment to taking actions necessary to protect U.S. national security and reiterated the Administration’s “small yard, high fence” approach, underscoring that export controls are narrowly targeted at technologies that have clear national security or human rights impacts and are not about containing China’s economic growth.“
