Secretary Vilsack Meets with Drought-Impacted State Leaders

The meeting allowed Secretary Vilsack to update fellow Agriculture Secretaries of federal programs available to them.

At the end of March, Agricultural Secretary Tom Vilsack met with the state-level Departments of Agriculture from the seven states located in the Colorado River Basin. The ongoing megadrought in the area has impacted many local farmers and ranchers in numerous ways. Secretary Vilsack wanted to personally inform the states how they can help their residents address these challenges through the financial and technical assistance offered by new federal programs.

“USDA is acting to support producers, forest landowners, and rural communities throughout the Colorado River Basin with a comprehensive approach that will assist impacted producers with conserving water and becoming less reliant on the Colorado River, promoting irrigation and water-use efficiency, and recovering from economic damages incurred from the unprecedented and ongoing drought,” said Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • That Secretary Vilsack’s support for state governments helps provide resources to local residents and organizations.
  • That the Lord reveals creative ways to reduce water use in the Colorado River Basin.
  • That the administration successfully empowers Americans to incorporate water conservation into their everyday lives.
