March 1st – Wednesday

For you bless the righteous, O Lord; you cover him with favor as with a shield. – Psalm 5:12

On this day in 1781, after the ratification by Maryland, the 13 United States adopted the Articles of Confederation as their federal form of government for the first 8 years of the new nation. Weaknesses were eventually revealed that caused the Founding Fathers to revisit the Articles and create a new document. During its third year of independence from Great Britain, the United States Constitution was completed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on July 9, 1787. The Constitution has served as this country’s foundation ever since. While laws may or may not be popular, they are intended to protect and guide the citizens of the land. Pray a hedge of protection around this nation that God has so graciously given to His people, as well as its rich history. Encourage others to pray alongside you today.

As the Lord leads, pray with us…

  • For the president and his advisors as they address issues that face the nation, from within and without.
  • For federal judges and Supreme Court justices to seek God’s wisdom as they hear and rule on Constitutional questions.
