Administration Considers Title 42 Expansion

Cubans, Nicaraguans. and Haitians could be included in mass expulsions.

President Biden’s administration is considering expanding Title 42 restrictions to apply to Cuban, Nicaraguan and Haitian migrants. Administration officials say that the changes could come as soon as this week, though no final decisions have been made. Title 42 is an immigration policy imposed at the start of the pandemic under President Trump.

Title 42 is intended to prevent the uncontrolled spread of COVID-19 by significantly reducing the acceptance of asylum seekers or quickly removing migrants living in the United States. Opponents of Title 42 maintain that the policy allows the federal government to expel migrants without giving them due process.
